The Aanganbaris
in India are known as day care centers. Aanganwaris in rural
areas have been created by the government to take care of
the children from their early childhood. Day Care Center (Anganbari)
programs are implemented in villages. The centers are
responsible for providing play way learning environment to
the young ones and to look after their health and hygiene.
The day care centers in rural areas often equipped with
minimal resources and are often under-funded, under-staffed,
and poorly managed. As a result, the community looses
confidence in day care centers, failing to make use of its
resources. Mothers and children receiving services are
either provided with little or with no attention and care.
The activities you’ll be doing The children being the main focus of volunteer efforts,
day care centers will regularly be visited by the volunteers
to work with the children. Awareness is generated on health
and hygiene issues of the children. Children will be
provided with healthy learning environment through
interactive games and pictograph stories. Emphasis on the
nutritional care of the children is also given in the
centers. The volunteers will also get involved with the
children in various games and learning exercises to create
interest in them develop their physical health and
potentiality.
A day in the life of a volunteer On working days, volunteers usually get up and have
breakfast before leaving for their Volunteer Placements. Our
staff will provide transportation to and from your Volunteer
Placement if required. You will probably spend about four
hours at your Volunteer Placement. Evenings will be filled
with opportunities to learn about the local culture and
customs, field trips to places of local interest,
discussions with experts on local issues and others. Evening
meal-times provide another exciting chance to enjoy
authentic food provided by host family/our staff cooks. The
food is delicious and healthy and takes full advantage of
local cooking traditions. The evenings and weekends are free
time, to relax or explore the local area. Volunteers often
travel to other parts of the country at weekends, and the
staff who are all from the local area themselves, are always
happy to make recommendations.
Popular with students and families during summer,
winter, and spring breaks. Adventurers and retirees
