Street to School Project

The dream to build a school for street kids to give them a far better education and ultimately a much better future… Get Involved!

Introduction
Since the day of inception of a project “Street children Education” with its theme- free education to all at grass root level especially for the children of down trodden families not having access to acquire better education our organization SANKALP (Former AEDS) has opened a school in a rented building. There are more than 200 children of different age group not enrolled to any school. Due to extreme poverty the parents are not capable to send their wards in schools. They with threat of hunger engage their children on the work like collecting recyclable material from the garbage thrown by public. With constant motivation to parents we could be able to bring the children to our school. Since the rented building is so small that it can not accommodate more than 50 students on floor. If the rooms are furnished with table and chairs not more than 30 students could sit in it. The organization wishes to enroll all the street children dwelling in and around the area of the school.

Organizational inabilities
The organization is a small unit with limited numbers as its chair persons and members. The fund generated out of the individual contribution of the members is not worthy enough to meet the education expenditure including the expenditure on building rent, electricity, water, transportation and mid day meal etc. Hardly with members’ contributions and volunteers’ services the organization is pulling on with 40 children and running the school.

Dream and Endeavour
In spite of immense financial stringencies the organization does not stop dreaming high and determined to undertake a large amount consuming project of construction of a school building where at least 150 street children could be accommodated for schooling.

For this purpose not less than an area of 500 sqyd is needed. At the rate of 25 children per room with all seating arrangements (table and chairs) and teacher’s platform, 6 Rooms are required to be constructed in initial stage in area of 300 sqyd. In 45 sqyd latrine/toilets, store rooms etc are to be constructed. The remaining of the plot are will be utilized for sports activities of the children.

The entire project including the cost of land works out to be not less than $80k. And this sum of amount for a small organization like SANKALP is hard nut to crack. It could however be possible by way of contribution by generous donors. Outside of school hours we hope to run adult education classes, free medical camps, conferences and have a facility to local community meetings.
